For those who are working from home, “Zoom fatigue” has been recognized as something that impacts many employees who have to sit in front of a computer for hours at a time. Here are a few ways to combat Zoom fatigue.
- Rest your eyes. The long hours of screen time will put a strain on your eyes, so take some time to close your eyes for at least 5-10 minutes every few hours. This can also be a time to play some guided meditation which you can easily find online via YouTube or other apps such as Headspace. Alexa also has meditation music that can be easily accessed.
- Exercise your eyes. Since your eyes have muscles, you can exercise your eyes when you wake up in the morning or when you go to bed. You can also exercise by looking up and down, and in circles. Step outside to take a stroll and practice looking at longer distances.
- Create a healthy environment for your eyes. Ensure that your work space has proper lighting. There are resources that have detailed types of lighting to avoid and the best types of bulbs to use for comfortable lighting. If possible, increase the use of natural lighting during the day. Keep your computer screen approximately 20-28 inches from your eyes so you are looking slightly down.
